Kansas City Chiefs Top Position Battles – Number Two: Second Starting Cornerback
Marcus Peters is a stud. But replacing Sean Smith on the other side won’t be easy. The Chiefs need someone to step up. And rather than going after a veteran to fill the role, John Dorsey decided to look to the future by bringing in a lot of young talent through the draft.
a. Phillip Gaines – He has the experience, but this is a question of whether or not he can stay healthy. Won’t pick many passes off, but he’s sticky in coverage.
b. Keivare Russell – The Ferrari has already become a bit of a fan favorite thanks to an active Twitter feed. High ceiling player.
c. Eric Murray – Has some talent, but a ways to go before he’s ready to get on the field with the big boys.
d. Marcus Cooper (watch out for) – Has looked very good working at safety during the offseason. Maybe a confidence boost is all he needed?
e. Jamell Flemming (not likely) – Special Teams ability and experience is what is keeping him around at this point.
