Fourth Toughest Tight End to Face in 2016 – Antonio Gates

Antonio Gates has been with the San Diego Chargers for his entire career (13 years) and is still one of the best tight ends in the NFL.

He’s recorded 844 receptions for 10,644 yards and 104 touchdowns during those 13 years. Gates is a beast on the field and his age hasn’t slowed him down.

  • With Ladarius Green now in Pittsburgh, Gates is once again the starter for the Chargers. They have a young Hunter Henry on their squad, who they drafted this year, but Gates will continue to see action until Henry is ready to be the guy.

Gates hasn’t had any monster games against Kansas City in recent years, but he’s always been a guy that Philip Rivers isn’t afraid to throw to, especially in critical moments. With his massive body, Gates is a tremendous threat down the field and one that is difficult to cover.

Throw in the fact that Gates and Rivers have been playing together for over a decade and that makes the duo even more terrifying. The Chiefs will see Gates in the season opener at Arrowhead and then in the season finale in San Diego.

I put Gates at number four on here because I think he’s due for a big game against the Chiefs, and he’s got two chances to do it in 2016.
