The Kansas City Royals represented at the All-Star game in a big way. Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez hit a home run each in the second inning for the American League.

Eric Hosmer got the scoring started for the American League when he hit an opposite field shot over the left center field wall. The Kansas City Royals first baseman’s no doubt shot came in his first All-Star game at bat. The home run tied the game at one a piece.

Here’s a great look at the shot thanks to FanSportsClips on Twitter. Watch it multiple times just for fun. It’s a thing of pure joy.

Two batters later, the four-time All-Star Salvador Perez smacked a two-run bomb to left field as well. The lead ballooned to 3-1 with one out in the second.

Both shots came off of former Royal, Johnny Cueto. Cueto couldn’t make it out of the second inning due to a high pitch count (32). He got pulled in favor of Marlins starter, Jose Fernandez.

Here’s a look at Salvy’s two-run devastating hit. Watch it multiple times as well.

In the third inning, Hosmer got after it again. He devastated a Fernandez fastball in the direction of Chicago third baseman, Kris Bryant. The ball took a wicked hop of the dirt in front of Bryant jumping over him and settled in shallow left field. The American League took a 4-1 lead thanks to the Kansas City Royals.

Hosmer went on to win the All-Star game MVP award. He received a sweet crystal bat and a brand new Chevy Truck. He said he will give the truck to his dad. How awesome is that?

Here’s more clips of Hosmer’s terrific evening.

Kansas City Royals relief pitcher, Kelvin Herrera came on in the sixth inning. He struck out Jay Bruce, got Odubel Herrera to pop out then made Adam Duvall look bad on a weak tap out. Herrera hardly broke a sweat on the hill. A typical outing for “El Toro”.

This is the kind of performance the guys can bring back with them to Kansas City. I’m sure the Royals teammates were watching the All-Star game. This should help the team get a boost in the second half of the season. This could ignite an inferno in the clubhouse that will fuel the Kansas City Royals back to the postseason.

The American League now has home field advantage for the World Series. Maybe the Royals will be back for a third straight year. How special would that be? I can’t wait for the second half. Go Royals.
