KU Basketball Big Men: Udoka Azubuike

Unlike his fellow freshman Mitch Lightfoot, Udoka Azubuike won’t need to get bigger. This seven-foot youngster weighs in at a listed 270 pounds.

The best thing about Azubuike is that he is just a babe. He is just 16 years old, so he will play for the Kansas Jayhawks at least two years.

The bad news is he is just 16 years old. He may not be mentally ready for the rigors and pressure of playing at Kansas right away. No worries, though. He shouldn’t have to carry the load early in his career and Self can bring him along at a pace that is comfortable.

The ESPN 100 ranked Azubuike 22nd overall, and had these things to say about him in their scouting report:

"Azubuike has great size, length, athletic ability, mobility and coordination. He runs the floor extremely well. He is an above the rim finisher with power when he receives drop off passes created by dribble penetration. He also can get to the basket with one or two dribble(s)…"

His size and athleticism may provide that rim protector the Kansas Jayhawks have longed for over the past few season.

If he comes along and can handle all that comes with being a Jayhawk, Azubuike will be an important part of the frontline rotation for Self.
