Worst seasons in Kansas City Chiefs history: No. 5, 1982 (3-6)

In 1982, the Kansas City Chiefs were not successful despite a strike-shortened season. It’s too bad because the team went 9-7 the year prior and there was a lot of hope for this team heading into 1982.

The team went 1-1 to start the year off and then the strike began, which resulted in seven games being canceled. When football resumed, the Chiefs showed how rusty they were, as they lost their first four games.

Joe Delaney, the team’s star rookie running back in 81, had a sophomore slump season, resulting in him only earning 380 yards and not getting into the end zone once. Delaney had had surgery on his detached retina, which could have resulted in his poor final season in the NFL.

Marv Levy was relieved of his head coaching duties at the season’s end, and the franchise hoped to move on from yet another poor season.

Unfortunately, the 1980s just wasn’t a great decade for the Kansas City Chiefs, and you’ll see one more season within that span on this list.
