Kansas City Chiefs: Five Surprise Candidates to Start in 2016
Surprise Players to Start – Number 3: Rod Streater
Rod Streater joined the Chiefs during free agency, and I could see him fighting his way up the depth chart for a chance to be a starter.
If Streater can show that the 2013 version of him is still lingering, he has a very good chance at being the non-Maclin starter.
As I mentioned with Demarcus Robinson, the competition at the number two receiver spot isn’t scary at all. Conley and Wilson both underperformed last season and it’s entirely possible that one of the newly signed guys could make a run at grabbing the position.
Streater is a good candidate because he’s a veteran with a solid season under his belt. In 2013 with the Raiders, Streater caught 60 passes for 888 yards and four touchdowns. He hasn’t been able to replicate that success, but we know the talent is there.
If Streater can show that the 2013 version of him is still lingering, he has a very good chance at being the non-Maclin starter and being that other guy that Smith might throw the football to.
With all of the talk on how the wide receiver position has been an area of concern for Kansas City, Rod Streater has just as good a chance as anyone to win the second starting spot.
