KU Football: Top Ten Quarterbacks All-Time
Best quarterbacks in Kansas football history: 3. Dave Jaynes
Dave Jaynes played for the KU football squad from 1971-1973 and had himself a pretty decent career while there. He passed for 5,350 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 40 interceptions.
Perhaps if Dave Jaynes had played for another school, he could have won the Heisman or some bowl games.
In 1973, Jaynes led the Jayhawks to a 7-4-1 record, which got them a bid in the Liberty Bowl (they lost in it).
Despite the bowl loss, Jaynes was a star nationally in 1973. He threw for 2,349 yards that year with 14 touchdowns. He wasn’t much of a runner (his rushing yards for his KU career are actually close to -500), yet he had four trips into the end zone.
Jaynes was recognized by the nation for his efforts in the 73 season, placing fourth for the Heisman Trophy, and being named Consensus All-American as well.
Perhaps if Dave Jaynes had played for another school, he could have won the Heisman or some bowl games, but instead he sits at third best all-time for the Kansas Jayhawks.
