KU Football: Top Ten Quarterbacks All-Time
Best quarterbacks in Kansas football history: 6. Bobby Douglass
When one thinks about the Kansas Jayhawks football team, the Heisman Trophy typically isn’t tied into those thoughts at all. Bobby Douglass, however, was one of the few KU football players to be in consideration for the big award.
Douglass played for the Jayhawks from 1966-1968 and placed seventh for the Heisman Trophy in 1968. He was an incredible force on offense for Kansas, passing for 2,817 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions.
As good as Bobby Douglass was for the Jayhawks, they were only relevant one year during his tenure with the team.
Douglass also killed defenses with his legs. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in three seasons, and that helped him earn All-Big Eight Conference honors twice during his college career. He was also named All-American in 1968.
Douglass is one of the few quarterbacks that Kansas has ever had to not only play in the NFL, but to be drafted by an NFL team. The Chicago Bears selected Douglass in the second round of the 1969 NFL Draft and he went on to play for them for seven seasons.
As good as Bobby Douglass was for the Jayhawks, they were only relevant one year during his tenure with the team. The 1968 season saw KU go 9-2, but they fell in the Orange Bowl that year. They did, however, finish the year ranked seventh in the country.
So while Bobby Douglass couldn’t lead the Jayhawks to a bowl victory, he’s still one of the best KU quarterbacks of all-time. He comes in at number six on this list.
