Best quarterbacks in Kansas football history: 8. Chip Hilleary

The beginning of the Glen Mason era in Kansas Jayhawks football saw Chip Hilleary as the quarterback in Lawrence. Hilleary was the starter from 1990-1992, but did see action in two games during the 1989 season.

Hilleary’s four years at KU concluded with 4,598 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,290 yards on the ground and a whopping 23 touchdowns. Hilleary saw the end zone with his legs 14 times during his junior year in 1991.

Hilleary’s final two seasons saw the Jayhawks with winning seasons. In 1991, they went 6-5 and in 1992 they finished the year 8-4 and were winners in the Aloha Bowl.

Chip Hilleary probably isn’t a name that a lot of people know, but he was one of the Jayhawks’ best quarterbacks to this date, and comes in at number eight on this list.
