Kansas City Royals: Biggest Threat in Division
Could be a threat – Chicago White Sox
Had I been writing this post a few weeks ago, the Chicago White Sox would have been my pick for biggest threat in the Central, hands down. They started the season off red hot, winning eight of their first ten games to start the season.
Before the White Sox faced the Royals for the first time on May 19th, they sat at 25-16. They were a comfortable nine games above .500, but then went on to only win one game against the World Series champs in now two series.
Kansas City just needs to keep reminding the Sox who still owns the AL Central.
The White Sox have a seven-game losing streak going for them at the moment and have lost eight of their last ten. They’re not a good team at the moment, going through a similar slump to what the Royals were experiencing just a few weeks ago.
The difference between these two teams is that the Royals have that elite bullpen that most baseball teams only dream about. The White Sox, at one time, were near the top of the rankings as far as bullpens went, but after blowing three leads against the boys in blue this past weekend, the cracks have been showcased to the entire MLB.
In other words, the White Sox have shown that they’re not as red hot as their early season displayed. They were hitting decently against the Royals, something they weren’t doing beforehand, but their bullpen faltered and that’s something to keep an eye on.
While I don’t see the White Sox as the biggest threat in the division, this is a big rivalry and they could gain momentum later on if the Royals allow them to. Kansas City just needs to keep reminding the Sox who still owns the AL Central.
