Free Agents Still Available – Number 5: Cortland Finnegan

Cortland Finnegan used to be one of the best cornerbacks in all of the NFL. While he’s obviously dropped off a bit in the recent years due to age, he could still fit a need for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs’ cornerback situation right now appears to be Marcus Peters as the sure thing to start in one of the spots. The other one is likely going to be a battle between Phillip Gaines and KeiVarae Russell.

That being said, Cortland Finnegan would not be a starter. He’d be a nice veteran signing in case one of those three guys got hurt. He could also mentor guys like Peters and Russell.

Giving Finnegan a one-year deal could be something the Chiefs consider. He may not be what he used to be, but when looking at all of the young guns on the cornerback depth chart, signing an experienced veteran might not be a bad idea for the KC Chiefs.
