Chiefs with Most to Prove in 2016 – Number 5: Marcus Peters

Marcus Peters had a fantastic rookie season, which actually saw him being named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2015. Why is he on the list of players with the most to prove then? Well, I’ll tell you why.

He’s now the one that’s expected to guard the toughest receiver or tight end and be able to hold his own.

The Chiefs parted ways with Sean Smith this past offseason (though they did seemingly make a run at re-signing him) and Smith was easily the team’s best defender in the secondary last season.

With Smith out the door (and on a division rival’s team, nonetheless), it’s extremely crucial for Marcus Peters to prove himself again this season. He’s now the one that’s expected to guard the toughest receiver or tight end and be able to hold his own.

We hear about sophomore slumps frequently and Peters cannot afford to have one of those. This secondary is counting on him to follow up his eight interception season from last year.
