Worst Case Scenarios – Number 5: Key injuries

The most obvious worst case scenario involves injuries. Of course seeing the big time stars like Alex Smith, Jamaal Charles, Jeremy Maclin, or Travis Kelce go down will effect the offense negatively.

  • We saw it last season with Charles. He was on route to having another great season for the Chiefs and tore his ACL in week five. The Chiefs were 1-4 at the time and it seemed bleak for the team to pick things up and start winning games.

While the Chiefs ended up fairing just fine without Charles, key injuries can absolutely ruin a team’s season. If Jeremy Maclin were to go out for an extended period of time, that would kill the Chiefs’ chances of doing well in 2016. Maclin was limited in the AFC Divisional Round and the two receivers in his place couldn’t do squat.

Alex Smith would be another terrible one to sustain an injury. The team no longer has Chase Daniel so it’d be either Tyler Bray, Aaron Murray, or new guy Kevin Hogan taking the snaps from Mitch Morse.

Any starter getting injured and missing time can be brutal, and in some cases, it can be the deciding factor to if a team makes it to the playoffs or not.
