Chiefs on the Cusp of Greatness – Number 2: Jeremy Maclin

The Chiefs have needed a legitimate number one wide receiver for several years now, and it became evident in 2016 that they had finally found one in Jeremy Maclin.

Jeremy Maclin is this on the Cusp of Greatness list because he brought something Kansas City needed – A legit number one receiver.

Maclin came to Kansas City on his own will (though attending Mizzou and having Andy Reid in town certainly helped, I’m sure) and soon showed why the Chiefs gave him a five-year deal last offseason.

In his inaugural season as a Chief, Maclin caught 87 passes for 1,088 yards and eight touchdowns. He was consistently Smith’s go-to guy and it showed how comfortable the two became with each other as the season went on.

Maclin had three games where he had over 100 yards and had one game where he recorded multiple touchdowns. He proved to be the difference for an offense that desperately needed some juice after 2014.

Jeremy Maclin is this on the Cusp of Greatness list because he brought something Kansas City needed – A legit number one receiver. Hopefully he’s here to stay for awhile and becomes one of the best Chiefs receivers ever.
