Lorenzo Cain

April 2016: .220/.297/.293, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 23 Ks

Lorenzo Cain has always been known for his productivity when healthy. Up until the last couple of years, the “when healthy” had been a major caveat.

Even before coming to the Royals in the Greinke Trade, Cain batted .306 for the Brewers in 43 games back in 2010. In other words, he’s typically produced when on the field, so it’s tough to find a month as bad as this in his past.

He had a rough September in 2013, producing a slash line of .214/.259/.474, although in roughly 30 fewer at-bats. He had a similar end-of-season slump in August 2012, but it came after missing the first half of the season.

Regardless, streaks like this are rare for Cain, and with five hits in four games so far in May, hopefully the hitter we’ve come to know is starting to re-emerge.
