Kansas City Chiefs: Five Best Tight Ends in Team History
Best Tight Ends in Chiefs History – Number 2: Travis Kelce
Although Travis Kelce just wrapped up his sixth NFL season (and fifth active season), he’s already proven that he’s one of the best KC Chiefs tight ends ever.
Travis Kelce is an exciting young player to watch. He has the build to become an elite tight end and has shown flashes of that in just two seasons.
In five active seasons (he was on injured reserve for his entire rookie season), Kelce has racked up 410 receptions for 5,236 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Kelce had five touchdowns in both 2014 and 2015 and added another four to his total in 2016. Even more impressive in 2016 was the amount of yards Kelce had, amassing over 1,000 yards receiving for the first time in his young career.
Kelce went over the 1,000 yard receiving mark again in 2017 and had eight touchdowns. Although he had more yards in 2016, Kelce put on by far his best performance in 2017, looking like he could overcome Rob Gronkowski for that top tight end spot in the league.
He very well looked the part of the league’s tight end in 2018, hauling in 103 receptions for 1,336 yards and ten touchdowns, bringing his career total to 5,236 yards in five active seasons. Kelce has been an All-Pro twice and made it to four Pro Bowls.
When I first wrote this list several years ago, Travis Kelce was the third best tight end in Chiefs history, sitting behind our number one entry and Fred Arbanas. After his third straight 1,000 yard season, however, I had to bump him up to number two. He’s the best tight end in the league right now and were it not for the number one entry being who he is, Kelce would be a lock for that spot.
