Wilmington Blue Rocks: 0-5

The Wilminton Blue Rocks did their best to imitate the big club as they went 0-5 from April 24th through April 30th. Much like the big club, it was a lack of offense that was to blame as they Blue Rocks never allowed more than five runs.

Ryan O’Hearn and Austin Bailey are doing their part for the Blue Rocks’ offense.

O’Hearn has seven home runs on the season. He’s the only player on the team with multiple bombs so far.

He’s also got a .352 batting average and seven doubles. This past week he had five hits with a home run but he also struck out seven times.

Austin Bailey, a shortstop for the Blue Rocks, is also having a good season. He’s batting .327 on the year and he also had five hits this past week. He’s not a top prospect and may never see the show, but he’s making a case for himself early.

Pedro Fernandez has been absolutely dominant for the Blue Rocks this season and that continued in his lone outing this past week.

He pitched seven innings that saw him give up four hits, two walks, and no runs and the Blue Rocks still lost. He also struck out seven batters in that outing.

On the year, he’s now pitched 22.1 innings and has a 2-0 record. He has 23 strikeouts and a 1.21 ERA.

Josh Staumont just continues to impress and whiff batters at an impressive rate. He’s average 16 strikeouts per nine innings of work right now.

On the season, he’s got an 0-2 record but an ERA of 2.00 with 32 strikeouts in 18 innings of work. This week he pitched five innings and allowed only three hits and a run. He did walk four, and it’s those free passes that he’ll have to learn to control.

In his last two outings he’s struck out nine batters per appearance. He’s got impressive stuff, but he’s got to harness it to be successful.
