Best Seventh Round Draft Picks of All-Time – Number 2: Fred Arbanas (Chiefs tight end from 1961-1970)

In the 1961 AFL Draft, Fred Arbanas joined the Dallas Texans and became one of the franchise’s best tight ends of all-time.

It’s worth reminding everyone that the rounds during the AFL Drafts were much shorter and therefore, Arbanas was only the 54th pick in the draft that year (and 22nd overall in the NFL Draft). That would put him as a second-rounder in today’s standards, but rules are rules. For the sake of this post, Arbanas is a seventh-round draft choice.

Arbanas ended his Texans/Chiefs career with 198 receptions for 3,101 receiving yards and 34 touchdowns. He was a member of the 1969 Super Bowl-winning Chiefs and were it not for this team’s ability to find incredible tight ends would be considered the best tight end in franchise history.

Arbanas was a five-time Pro Bowler and a three-time First-Team All-Pro. Arbanas spent all nine years of his AFL career with the Texans/Chiefs organization and to this day is still considered to be one of the organization’s best tight ends.
