Kris Medlen Vs Felix Hernandez

Kris Medlen has had mixed results early this season. In fact, so has King Felix.

What should be a pitcher’s duel between two pitchers with immaculate control of the strike zone, could turn into a race to see who can limit the damage on walks.

Kris Medlen is 1-1 on the season and pitched two very strong games in his first two outings. In his last start however, he lasted just 3.2 innings and gave up seven earned runs.

On the season he has pitched 15 innings. He’s given up 17 hits and 11 walks while earning an ERA of 6.00. He was carrying an ERA of 2.38 heading into that game.

The only Mariner’s player with a hit against Medlen is Steve Clevenger, who’s 1-3. Overall the Mariner’s hitters are 1-9 against Medlen.

The Royals have had a lot of at-bats against King Felix. Overall, they’re 40-156 with a batting average of .256 and an on-base percentage of .310.

Mike Moustakas and Jarrod Dyson are both batting .333 against Felix Hernandez and are a combined 7-21. Kendrys Morales is batting .280 against the Mariner’s Ace with four doubles and a home run in 50 at-bats.

Alcides Escobar, who’s been ice cold and carries a season on-base percentage of .250, is 6-16 against Felix. Maybe he’s just the pitcher to get him going.

So far this year, Hernandez has pitched 25 innings and has 24 strikeouts. He’s given up 14 hits and a surprising 15 walks on the year. He’s limited the damage and has four quality starts with an ERA of 1.80 but a win-loss record of 1-2.
