Best Sixth Round Selections of All-Time – Number 5: Kerry Reardon (Chiefs cornerback/return specialist from 1976-1981)

Here is the first KC Chiefs “lifer” to appear on the list, and it’s Kerry Reardon out of Iowa. The Chiefs drafted Reardon 146th overall in the 1971 NFL Draft and he spent a whopping six years with the team.

Reardon, drafted as a cornerback, mainly was a kick and punt returner during his first several years in the league. He never returned either for a touchdown, and had 308 kickoff return yards during his rookie season in 1971.

When Reardon finally got a chance at cornerback, he wasn’t too shabby for a sixth rounder. He had 14 career interceptions, including five in 1976 (his last year in the league).

Kerry Reardon cracked the top four on this countdown because he spent six years in Kansas City and was only with the Chiefs during his career. He also had 14 interceptions throughout those six years, which isn’t bad considering what round he was drafted in.

Best Sixth Round Selections of All-Time – Number 4: Barry Richardson (Chiefs offensive tackle from 2008-2011)

The Kansas City Chiefs drafted hot-headed Barry Richardson in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Clemson. The reason I say Richardson was hot-headed was due to an altercation he had during the 2010 season involving Todd Haley and Steve Hoffman.

Basically what happened was Richardson was penalized twice in a game against the Broncos, so head coach at the time Todd Haley benched him. Richardson was pretty fired up about it and shoved special teams coach Steve Hoffman (check it out in the video above). Classy.

Anyway, Richardson played for the Chiefs for four seasons. He made 33 starts during that time and appeared in 48 games total. He finished his career with stints in St. Louis and Detroit and was out of the league after the 2013 season.

Richardson’s frequent tantrums likely got him the boot from Kansas City early, but considering he started in every game in 2010 and 2011 (and all 16 games for the Rams n 2012), he wasn’t a bad sixth-round selection by any means.
