Best Sixth Round Selections of All-Time – Number 10: James Saxon (Chiefs fullback from 1988-1991)

The Kansas City Chiefs have almost always had good fullbacks on their offense to help jumpstart the run game. James Saxon was the team’s fullback for four years after being the team’s sixth-round selection in the 1988 NFL Draft.

Saxon contributed more on special teams, appearing in all 16 games his first two seasons and getting six starts as a fullback. He didn’t start any games in 1990 or 1991 and moved onto the Miami Dolphins in 1992.

Saxon finished his Chiefs career with 127 carries for 497 yards and five touchdowns. The production that Kansas City got out of Saxon certainly wasn’t bad for a sixth-round choice. He spent eight years in the NFL, four with the Chiefs, three with the Dolphins, and finished off his career in Philadelphia with the Eagles for one year.

James Saxon isn’t a huge name in the Kansas City fanbase, but for a sixth-round choice, he did more than enough to earn his spot on this list. He is currently the running backs coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers too, which is pretty cool.
