Edinson Volquez Vs. Jered Weaver

Albert Pujols has the most experience against Edinson Volquez and he’s 4-10 with a pair of home runs. In fact, Pujols has a home run off of every one of the royals probable pitchers in this series.

Overall, the Angels are 11-40 against Volquez for a .275 average. In spite of promising numbers against Volquez, he’s already proven himself stingy to offenses that have had success off of him in the past.

So far this season Edinson Volquez has three quality starts in his first four outings. He would have had a fourth if he could have made it through the sixth inning against the Twins.

In his 24.2 innings pitched this season he has 22 strikeouts and has given up 19 hits to go along with eight walks. His ERA of 1.46 is even more impressive considering he blanked the Tigers in his last start. That’s a team that he’s been historically bad against.

Lorenzo Cain likely isn’t looking forward to facing Jered Weaver. He’s just 2-9 against the right-handed pitcher with five strikeouts. Alex Gordon has struck out in 11 of the 22 at-bats he’s had against Weaver so he could be set up to struggle also.

Kendrys Morales is 8-14 against Weaver with a double and a home run. He hasn’t had quite the same start to this season and it would be great to see him really open up a game for the Royals in this series.

Overall, the Royals are 22-91 against Weaver, but he’s not quite the same pitcher he used to be when the Royals compiled some of these stats.

So far this season, he has a 2-0 record in 17.1 innings pitched. He’s given up 17 hits and five walks but he’s also allowed a home run in each of his outings. The Royals have five players with a home run against Weaver so that looks like a good combination.
