Ian Kennedy Vs. Garrett Richards

The first match-up of this series will feature two pitchers who average more than a strikeout per inning on the season.

Ian Kennedy has had a tremendous start with the KC Royals. In his three starts, he’s got three quality starts and a record of 2-1 on the year. He’s pitched a total of 20 innings on the year and has 21 strikeouts including seven in each start.

He’s pitched into the seventh inning in each of his appearances and has an ERA on the year of 1.35. The Royals will need him to win this pitcher’s duel to start the series out on the right foot.

The Angels have had pretty good success against Ian Kennedy. They are 11-43 overall for a batting average of .256. Yunel Escobar and Albert Pujols each have two hits off of Kennedy including a home run by each player.

Garrett Richards has made four starts on the season and the Angels are 0-4 in his starts. He’s got a record of 0-3 on the season and will look to continue his success against the Royals.

Lorenzo Cain has probably had the most success against Richards. He’s 5-11 with three doubles and a home run. Maybe he’s the perfect person to break him out of his slump.

While Mike Moustakas, Cain, and Alex Gordon have had success against Richards, not everyone in the Royals’ lineup has been so lucky.

Kendrys Morales, Eric Hosmer, Omar Infante, and Salvador Perez are a combined 3-42 against Garrett Richards while the whole team is 20-86.
