Lexington Legends

The Lexington Legends posted a 2-5 record on the week with Foster Griffin and Yunior Marte earning the victories for the team.

Griffin, the KC Royals number nine prospect, is 1-2 on the season with a 3.27 ERA in 22 innings pitched. He’s got a WHIP of 0.86 on the season and 14 strikeouts to go along with his impressive numbers.

Griffin didn’t have a great year last year, but appears to have figured things out this season. He’s the lesser known left-handed pitcher that was taken in the 2014 draft. The other, Brandon Finnegan, is alternating between good and bad starts in Cincinnati. Here’s what MLB.com has to say about the prospect:

"He gets high marks for his intelligence and poise. His changeup, frame and pitchability have earned him some comparisons to Cole Hamels, though Griffin’s ceiling is more of a mid-rotation starter."

In the April 19th win, the Legends won by a score of 11-9 and second baseman D.J. Burt had a big hand in that victory.

The young infielder had a career day, going 4-6 with a home run and five runs driven in at the plate. Yunior Marte earned the win in spite of giving up five runs over 4.1 innings of work.

The Legends saw a bad outing out of one of their top 2015 picks in Nolan Watson. He has a 10.97 ERA on the year and this week he pitched 3.2 innings and gave up five earned runs.
