Chris Young Vs. Yovani Gallardo

The Royals have not been successful when Chris Young is on the hill this season. In his three starts the Royals are 0-3 on the season. Hopefully he can turn that around against the Orioles.

It stands to reason that a fly ball pitcher may not seem like a good match up against a team that hits a lot of home runs, but he has good numbers against the Orioles.

The current Orioles batters are just 1-23 against the tall right-hander. That hit came on a single to Chris Davis, but it’s encouraging that the ball staying in the park.

He’s also struck out six batters in the 23 at-bats with two of those coming against Manny Machado.

The Royals will be facing off against Yovani Gallardo. He was rumored to be pursued by the Royals in the off-season but so far it appears that Ian Kennedy was the better buy of the two.

Gallardo has a 5.63 ERA in 16 innings pitched across three starts this season. In spite of his high ERA, the Orioles are 2-1 in games that he’s pitched in. That shows just how good the offense is.

The Royals have done a whole lot of nothing against Yovani Gallardo in their careers. They are just 9-44 against him for an average of .205.

Drew Butera has the most success against the Orioles’ pitcher with two hits, but don’t count on him to get any at-bats.
