Best Fifth Round Draft Picks of All-Time – Number 1: Tyreek Hill

Well, Jerry Mays has been surpassed and he was passed up by Tyreek Hill, a fifth round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Hill immediately shone as a rookie in 2016, being used as a running back, wide receiver, and on special teams.

From then on, Hill was groomed into more of a receiver role, which is where he plays to this day. He became the Chiefs WR1 in the 2017 season and is now one of their best players not just to come out of the fifth round, but of all-time.

In just four seasons with the Chiefs, Hill has 4,115 yards and 32 receiving touchdowns. His best season came in 2018 – the first season he played with Patrick Mahomes – where he had 1,479 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns.

Hill’s career has been very up and down off the field, but on the field, he’s been a tremendous addition to the Kansas City Chiefs offense and will go down as one of the best receivers in their franchise’s history.

By the time the fifth round hits, most teams are just looking to add depth to their roster. The KC Chiefs actually have had several decent selections in the fifth round over the years. Scott Fujita and Joe Horn were both great NFL players, but both saw their success while with another team (in this case, it was with the Saints).

Other guys on here will be remembered by Chiefs fans forever. Tyreek Hill, Jerry Mays, and Dante Hall are prime examples of this, and it’ll only be a matter of time before Hall gets his spot in the Chiefs Hall of Fame.

All in all, the Chiefs have fared decently in the fifth round since their inception in 1961. The team can hopefully get a decent guy in the fifth round this year and maybe he’ll appear on this list in the coming years.

What did you think of this list? Did I leave anyone notable off?
