KC Chiefs: Ten Best Fifth Round Draft Picks of All-Time
Best Fifth Round Picks of All-Time – Number 7: Joe Horn (Chiefs wide receiver from 1996-1999)
Here is the first guy on this list to have had a nice career in the NFL, but didn’t necessarily establish himself with the Kansas City Chiefs, and it’s Joe Horn. The Chiefs selected Horn in the fifth round of the 1996 NFL Draft out of Itawamba JC.
Horn only started two games during his time in Kansas City, but he played in 49 total. During that time, he had 53 receptions for 879 yards and seven touchdowns. Not bad for a fifth-round wide receiver who only started in two games.
Horn’s success began after he left Kansas City though. He signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2000 and immediately made an impact in the Big Easy, grabbing 94 passes for 1,340 yards and eight touchdowns.
That’s right. In one season in New Orleans, Horn managed to pass his entire yards and touchdowns total while with the Chiefs. He went on to play an incredible seven years for the Saints, recording 7,622 yards and 50 touchdowns. It’s a shame that production wasn’t there when he was in Kansas City.
Horn finished off his career in Atlanta where he spent the 2007 season before calling it a career.
Sure, Joe Horn didn’t see his NFL success in Kansas City, which is why he’s only ranked sixth on here, but Horn was one of the best receivers in the league from 2000-2004. He made it to four Pro Bowls while in New Orleans and made it into their Hall of Fame in 2010.
