KC Chiefs: Ten Best Fifth Round Draft Picks of All-Time
Best Fifth Round Picks of All-Time – Number 9: Bob Stein (Chiefs linebacker from 1969-1972)
In the 1969 AFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Bob Stein in the fifth round out of Minnesota. He spent four seasons with the Chiefs and eight total in the NFL.
Stein was on the 1969 Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs squad and played in 14 games that season (his rookie year). He only started in two total games as a Chief, but he played in every game from 1969-1971.
After four seasons in Kansas City, Stein moved on to the Los Angeles Rams where he spent two seasons. He finished his career off in 1975, splitting time between the Vikings and the Chargers.
Bob Stein isn’t a big name at all, but he’s one of the few Chiefs to have a Super Bowl ring. He also was reliable, playing in 50 games during his four seasons as a member of the Chiefs.
Best Fifth Round Picks of All-Time – Number 8: Kendrick Lewis (Chiefs safety from 2010-2013)
In 2010, the KC Chiefs drafted Kendrick Lewis out of Mississippi in the fifth round.
Lewis has never been a big name in the NFL, but despite being a fifth round pick, has gone on to have a decent little career as a safety. He only spent four seasons with the Chiefs, but during that time had seven interceptions, including one that he took all the way back for a touchdown.
Lewis also racked up 142 tackles and defended 23 passes during his Chiefs years. He struggled a bit in 2013, which is likely why the team didn’t re-sign him.
Kendrick Lewis then went on to sign with the Houston Texans where he started all 16 games. He played for Baltimore last season and started all but one game in the secondary.
The reason Lewis cracks this list is that he’s had a good career for being a fifth round pick in the draft. He’s gone on to be a full-time starter for several teams during his tenure in the NFL and was a nice value pick by the Chiefs in 2010.
