The KC Chiefs have two fifth round selections in the 2016 NFL Draft. Who have been some of the Chiefs’ best fifth round draft picks?

Continuing on with KC Kingdom’s round-by-round “All-Time Best” posts, we now come to the fifth round, in which the Chiefs have fared decently in.

The fifth round is a tough one because it’s unlikely a team will find a starter or franchise guy by that point in the draft. Instead, teams usually draft for depth and whatever happens happens.

A prime example of a team doing well in the fifth round recently is the Seattle Seahawks, who drafted Richard Sherman in round five in 2011. Sherman has gone on to become one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks.

There are several guys on this list who are (or were, rather) household names in their prime. The difficult part with ranking everyone was that some of these guys, despite having a nice career, didn’t experience as much success when they were with the Chiefs.

Who have the Chiefs stolen in the fifth round that went on to have nice careers? Let’s take a look at the ten best fifth round picks in Kansas City Chiefs history.

Best Fifth Round Picks of All-Time – Honorable Mention: Charles Mincy (Chiefs safety/cornerback from 1991-1994)

The Chiefs drafted Charles Mincy in the fifth round of the 1991 NFL Draft out of Washington and he went on to spend a lengthy nine years in the NFL, four of which were spent in Kansas City.

Mincy didn’t play in any games his rookie year, but he started all 16 in 1992. He also played in every game in 1993 and 1994 before parting ways with the team before the 1995 season.

During his time in Kansas City, Charles Mincy recorded 178 tackles and 12 interceptions (two of which he took back the other way for scores). He started 27 games and played in 48 total. Not bad for a fifth round pick.

Mincy finished out his career spending time with Minnesota, Tampa Bay, and Oakland before being out of the league after the 1999 season.

He might not be the biggest name, but Mincy served a purpose for the Chiefs and he just misses out on the top ten..
