Extra Base Hits

In 2015, the Royals had 139 home runs, 300 doubles, and 42 triples (41 by Paulo Orlando…not really).

So far in 2016, their pace isn’t all that unrealistic but home runs and doubles are coming in way under their 2015 totals.

They’re currently on pace to hit 129.6 home runs and 162 doubles. Both of those numbers are well below the mark and they’ll need to have a little more extra-base pop if they want to repeat.

They’re also on pace for 129.6 triples this season thanks in large part to Eddie Rosario. If only the Royals could play the Twins more often (two of the Royals’ four triples this season keyed comebacks).

While the Royals aren’t on pace to do much over the fence damage, one Royals’ player could set a team record if he continues to hit home runs at his current pace.

Mike Moustakas is on pace to hit 64.8 home runs this season (and that still wouldn’t be an MLB record). That doesn’t take into consideration any off days and we’re talking about a five game sample size. Things will level out.

Another player on pace for a better year is Omar Infante. He’s on pace to have 161.6 hits this season compared to only 97 last year. Only three players had at least 160 hits for the Royals in 2015 so that kind of uptick would be huge for the team (he has a hit in the sixth game too but that doesn’t count).
