Biggest Draft Busts Since 2011 – Number 4: Dee Ford

Now hopefully this is one that can be removed in a year and I can look back and say, “I’m glad I was way off on that one!”, but as of now, Dee Ford is fourth on this list.

Drafted 23rd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, Dee Ford was supposed to come in and be the next Tamba Hali in Kansas City. While being as beloved as Hali is a difficult task, fans just wanted to know that the linebacker spot would be okay once he was gone.

Ford hasn’t been able to do much else during his short time in the pros. Maybe if Justin Houston has to sit out in 2016, Ford can finally step up and be that dominant outside linebacker that we all want him to be.

Ford has given us no reassurance since his first round selection two years ago. In his rookie season, he was most remembered for running away from Frank Gore in a game against the 49ers. Not exactly something one wants to be remembered for.

In his second year, Ford started five games, but was less than impressive. His best moment came in a game against the San Diego Chargers where he sacked Philip Rivers three times.

While this sounds impressive on paper, the Chargers were down to their third-string offensive lineman. Ford hasn’t been able to do much else during his short time in the pros. Maybe if Justin Houston has to sit out in 2016, Ford can finally step up and be that dominant outside linebacker that we all want him to be.

Overall, Dee Ford has recorded 24 tackles and five and a half sacks in two seasons of work. A first round draft choice should have better stats than this, and it’s time for Dee Ford to step up for his team or else he could go down as one of the worst first round picks ever.
