Biggest Draft Busts Since 2011 – Number 5: Devon Wylie

Who?

That’s probably what you’ll be asking yourself on a few of these, and the first of which is wide receiver Devon Wylie, whom the Chiefs took with the 107th pick (fourth round) in the 2012 NFL Draft.

While a fourth round pick isn’t necessarily supposed to come in and be the saving grace of a franchise, he should last longer than one season with the team that originally drafted him. Wylie was only a member of the Chiefs in 2012 and then went on to spend time with five other teams in two seasons.

During his lone season as a Chief, Wylie started in one game and played in six total. He recorded five catches for 26 yards and also had nine kickoff returns for 191 yards. The Chiefs likely wanted Wylie to be a kick returner full-time, but it never panned out in Kansas City.

Now it is worth noting that the 2012 season was the worst in KC Chiefs’ history. They went 2-14 and had the first pick in the draft after that debacle of a season that saw the Chiefs having Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn quarterbacking the team.

Wylie spent one season in Kansas City and then spent time with the Steelers, Titans, Seahawks, 49ers, and Cardinals in 2013, and the Rams in 2014. He is currently a free agent.

Wylie could have been used greatly in today’s Chiefs offense and on special teams, but his one season in Kansas City was forgettable at best.
