3rd Pick: Jalen Ramsey | Cornerback

There is no prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft more suited to replace Sean Smith at cornerback than Jalen Ramsey.

The best cornerback in this year’s draft class would definitely address arguably this KC Chiefs offseason’s biggest question mark.

This trade is a little more reasonable to consider, but it is not quite a favorable deal for the KC Chiefs.

Giving up two first round picks is to be expected in this scenario.

  • The third overall pick already has a ton of value, and, considering the KC Chiefs are trading from near the end of the first round, it may be fair for top five picks to expect this sort of value in return.

The problem with this trade is the picks required beyond the two first rounders.

Two second and third round picks, in addition the KC Chiefs two first round picks, is a pretty tough ask.

If the KC Chiefs agreed to this trade, they would be guaranteeing that the franchise will only have one draft pick in the first three rounds for the next three years.

These draft picks are vital to maintaining the influx of talent into any NFL team’s roster.

Cutting off this additive talent flow would hinder the KC Chiefs rebuilding process greatly once veterans like Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali retire.

Although reports have said that the San Diego Chargers are fielding offers for the pick, I’m largely uncertain whether the Chargers would even answer John Dorsey’s call.

Trades between division rivals appear to NFL taboo due to the risk of improving a team you have to play twice a year.

Although Ramsey would be a great replacement for Smith, the Chargers ask and the obstacles associated with getting them on the phone make this transaction nothing more than fantasy.
