Kansas City Chiefs Add Depth In 2016 Mock Draft
By Scott Dillon
Round 5 – Pick 26: Brandon Doughty, Quarterback (Western Kentucky)
The Kansas City Chiefs already have a few options at backup quarterback, but Brandon Doughty could jump right into the mix for the backup role. It is important to note that his inflated stats are likely the result of playing in a weak conference, but it’s still hard to ignore his numbers over the last two seasons.
In Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray, they Chiefs have two options for backup quarterback that came from the SEC. While neither of them have NFL action yet, coming from what is widely considered to be the toughest conference in the league should help prove their ability.

He’s a tad bit different from Alex Smith in that he isn’t very mobile. Okay, he’s not mobile at all. He has -285 yards rushing in his career. He’s a pocket passer, but does have some ability to roll out and make plays.
Here’s what NFL.com has to say about the Quarterback from Western Kentucky:
"There are several games where Doughty plays with confidence, great accuracy and a winning understanding of his offense. However, when the heat is on he shows a lack of poise that can affect his footwork and touch. Doughty is missing an NFL arm or plus athleticism, but his production and ability to get through his progressions will get him a shot to prove the “system quarterback” label wrong."
The Chiefs are likely going to bring in a fourth quarterback this year and Brandon Doughty has as much upside in the late rounds as nearly anyone. With nearly 10,000 yards and just under 100 touchdowns the last two seasons, he seems to have a knack for finding the end zone. That’s something the Chiefs could use in the future.
