Round 5 – Pick 23: D’Haquille Williams, Tight End (Auburn)

The Kansas City Chiefs are a pretty cohesive unit. When Eric Berry went down in 2014, the team and the city rallied behind him. Bringing in guys with an established history of being a malcontent is a bad idea.

D’Haquille Williams is a wide receiver who will likely change roles and become a tight end. He does have a big frame and plays to his size, but he’ll have to really impress some people to overcome his off the field issues.

D’Haquille Williams Combine Results

  • 40 Yard Dash: 4.72 seconds
  • Broad Jump: 121 inches
  • Bench Press: 14 reps
  • Three-Cone Drill: 7.43 seconds
  • 20-Yard Shuttle: 4.47 seconds
  • Vertical Jump: 30 inches

Here’s what NFL.com has to say about the Auburn product:

"“I can tell you that he burned all of his bridges over there (Auburn). He’s a selfish, me-first guy and I don’t think he’s trustworthy in the locker room at all. He didn’t compete at all this year. I wouldn’t draft him in any round.” — NFC Director of Personnel"

This is a guy who was released from the team in 2015 after he assaulted a group of people in an Auburn night club. He had been given multiple chances by the Auburn program to get his act together and just couldn’t do it.

There may actually be hope for this former top NFL prospect. When addressing his off-field issues at the combine, he stepped up and admitted his mistakes. That’s a good start towards redemption and Andy Reid has been known to take chances on guys needing a second chance.
