Round 4 – Pick 28: Rashard Higgins, Wide Receiver (Colorado State)

If there is one thing the Chiefs appear to have plenty of, it’s number three receivers. Why not throw another one into the mix? One of them has to step up and compliment Jeremy Maclin.

If any of them have a shot, Rashard Higgins would appear to be a good candidate. He led the nation in 2014 in both touchdowns (17) and receiving yards(1,750). He also did it with less than stellar quarterback play.

He’s a deep threat receiver who likely won’t fully utilize his tools with Alex Smith throwing him the ball, but don’t forget that occasionally Smith will dial up a long ball.

See what NFL.Com has to say about Rashard Higgins:

"Slightly built short strider with effervescent personality and an endless supply of confidence, Higgins has been highly targeted and extremely productive in each of his three seasons with the Rams. Higgins showed off improved hands to go with his winning ball skills when the ball is in the air. His lack of strength and average release quickness is a concern against NFL press coverage, but the overall package is good enough to find snaps as a pro."

Rashard Higgins Combine Results

  • 40 Yard Dash: 4.64 seconds
  • Bench Press: 13 reps
  • Broad Jump: 116 inches
  • Vertical Jump: 32 inches

The Chiefs are in serious need of a legitimate number two receiver and right now they don’t appear to have any. They have plenty of guys on the fringe including Albert Wilson, Chris Conley, and now Rod Streater, but none of them have shown consistent number two potential.

Rashard Higgins is a bit of a reach to fill that void, but in the fourth round it’s a reach worth taking.
