Teams to Watch Out for in 2016 – Number 4: Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are favorites to win the World Series for the first time in years. Personally, I’m one of the few not predicting them to win the whole thing, as the Cubs are one of those choker teams. Anytime they’re poised for a breakout year, they choke.

The thing to keep in mind with Chicago, however, is that they’re in an incredibly tough division.

Hey, don’t get me wrong, I like the Cubs. I love Wrigley Field and try to catch a game out there at least once a year. Last year, I even went out there to see my Royals play the Cubs, and the fans there were so friendly. I would love to see the Cubs have a successful season, just not against the Royals.

Back to the point though, the Cubs acquired some big names this offseason. They got former Royal Ben Zobrist and former Cardinals Jason Heyward and John Lackey. Throw those guys in with the already young core of Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, and Kyle Schwarber, and the Cubbies will be a tough team in the NL Central this season.

The thing to keep in mind with Chicago, however, is that they’re in an incredibly tough division. The St. Louis Cardinals have owned that division the past three seasons, and last year, three teams made it into the postseason (the Pirates being the other team).

Buster Olney earlier predicted that the Cubs would defeat the Royals in the World Series this year. We’ll just see about that, Buster.
