The Royals are back where they want to be: Underdogs

The KC Royals like being underestimated and underappreciated by everyone who isn’t a Kansas City Royals’ fan.

It drives them to succeed and helps fuel the fire behind what the fans see on the field every single day.

This team plays well with a chip on their shoulder and they have a great way of responding when their backs are against the wall. They’ve already proven that high expectations and high-pressure situations don’t phase them. Perhaps other teams won’t fare as well with that.

The Cubs are the undisputed favorites to win it all this season. That team is stacked from top to bottom. They have good young players and a lineup that should strike fear into the hearts of even the best pitchers in the league.

They added Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist this off-season who should help them shake the highest strikeout rate in the league. With those additions came a mountain of expectations and a lot of pressure. If the Cubs don’t get off to a fast start, an angry fan base coupled with hungry for attention media outlets, could lead to some fallout.

The Mets and Astros are also expected to make some deep playoff runs and Sports Illustrated even predicts the Astros to beat the Cubs in the World Series. None of these teams have proven the ability to win when it matters most though and all of them have a history of ‘choking’.

The Royals are a confident bunch and why shouldn’t they be? They have come back from seemingly insurmountable odds on countless occasions and have been the World Series on back-to-back occasions.
