Round 5 | Pick 23: Rees Odhiambo

In the first of their two fifth round picks, I have the KC Chiefs selecting Rees Odhiambo. After filling all defensive needs, the KC Chiefs may opt to improve the offensive line with this pick.

Going into this mock draft, I intended to try and draft a one-dimensional run-blocking specialist at guard and/or a one-dimensional pass-blocking specialist at tackle if the KC Chiefs were indeed going to address offensive line later in the draft.

  • Odhiambo did not exactly fit this mold. Zierlein elaborates on the curious case of Odhiambo. “Played tackle in college but will be considered at both tackle and guard and carries some two-position value.”

Zierlein also added, “Has athleticism and body control to be effective pulling guard and zone scheme fit as right tackle or guard.”

In his conclusion, Zierlein had this to say about Odhiambo, “Well-built college tackle who NFL evaluators are projecting inside to guard,” he said.

“Has the footwork and technique to allow a team to give him a shot at right tackle first. Odhiambo is a coachable, team-oriented player who has the temperament, frame and strength needed to play inside.”

Odhiambo is a guard/tackle who’s strength is pass protection. I couldn’t pass up this versatility, especially given his experience playing left tackle in college.

This means, Odhiambo could force Eric Fisher into the interior where he could replace Laurent Duvernay-Tardif at guard.

Odhiambo’s versatility gives the KC Chiefs a lot of options at offensive line moving forward in this virtual reality.
