KC Chiefs Defensive Needs First 2016 NFL Mock Draft
By Bobby Miller
Round 3 | Pick 28: Blake Martinez
This selection assumes that the KC Chiefs will take back their third round draft pick that Roger Goodell unjustly took from them.
That being said, the KC Chiefs continue this defense-prioritized 2016 NFL Mock Draft with the selection of this west coast run thumper named Blake Martinez.
I couldn’t resist putting Martinez alongside Derrick Johnson at inside linebacker. With these two in the middle of the KC Chiefs 3-4 defense, teams will have a tough time getting any rushing yards against them.
Zierlein’s description of Martinez is promising. “Good muscle thickness and one of the most powerful, pound-for-pound players in the program,” Zierlein said. “Has desired temperament to play in the middle.”
“Physical, productive tackler. Downhill linebacker. Business-minded machine against the run, maintaining consistent gap responsibility.”

If Martinez pans out, after the KC Chiefs receive their third round pick of course, these two linebackers could be the best 3-4 inside linebacker run-stopping duo in the league by far, especially given that Johnson was ranked sixth among all inside linebackers in run defense by Pro Football Focus.
