KC Chiefs fans everywhere could not help but be taken aback when haunting news broke about Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston.

Knowing now that Houston will miss 6-12 months recovering from ACL surgery, the Chiefs must name a replacement at left outside linebacker. This heartbreaking loss to the KC Chiefs pass rush and their defense as a whole must be corrected, and solutions may already exist on the roster.

John Dorsey has done a pretty fantastic job re-signing free agents already in Eric Berry, Tamba Hali, Derrick Johnson, and Jaye Howard just to name a few. Luckily, Dorsey also signed multiple outside linebackers that will fight for Houston’s spot.

These outside linebackers include Frank Zombo, Jonathan Massaquoi, Efe Obada, and Tautvydas Kieras. I thought of them as nothing more than depth signings at the time. Now I know that one of these players could be the Chiefs starting left outside linebacker next season.

Although these linebackers are not proven stars, they still present intriguing solutions to this sudden and horrible problem. That being said, let’s look at who will be competing for the job in question.
