Fifth: July 2nd, 2013 – Game Tying Grand Slam

In July of 2013 the KC Royals were only a few games back of the division leader and were actually in third place in the division. It was the first time the Royals would finish the year with a winning record since 2003.

In a game against the Indians on July 2nd, a team that was ahead of them in the division race, the Royals trailed by four runs in the fifth inning. Gordon unleashed a monster shot on a 3-0 count with the bases loaded:

The Royals’ pitching staff blew any sort of momentum or life that this blast gave the team. They walked eight batters and hit another one. Essentially, they gave that game away.

It seems like anytime there is a chance to win or make an impact on a game that Alex Gordon is making an appearance. While this game had little bearing on the playoffs or even winning that game, getting your team out of a four-run hole with one swing is a pretty grand feat.
