Best First Round Picks by the Chiefs – Number 9: Tamba Hali (Chiefs defensive end/linebacker from 2006-2017)

Tamba Hali was a lot of Chiefs fans’ favorite player, and why shouldn’t he have been? After being the 20th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft by the KC Chiefs, Hali had a sensational 12-year career with Kansas City.

Hali played his college football at Penn State and was originally a defensive end. He played at that position for three seasons before the team switched him to an outside linebacker, where Hali continued to flourish.

Hali received a five-year $60 million contract in the summer of 2011 and was kind enough to restructure his deal. He took less money to stay with the Chiefs, and it really made us ask what more this guy could do for Kansas City.

Hali once again showed that he’s all about the Kansas City Chiefs. He signed a three-year $21 million deal to stay with the Chiefs after the 2015 season. Hali likely took less money to stay in Kansas City and has been quoted saying he never wanted to go anywhere else.

That’s the kind of guy you want to draft in the first round. One who’s not all about the money and who’s all about the team. Tamba Hali is that guy and will go down as one of the best Chiefs ever even if his career didn’t end on the greatest of notes.
