KC Chiefs: 15 Best First Round Draft Picks of All-Time
Best First Round Picks by the Chiefs – Number 5: Ed Budde (Texans/Chiefs offensive guard from 1963-1976)
Ed Budde was the Dallas Texans’ eighth overall pick in the 1963 AFL Draft and he became one of the best offensive guards in team history.
For one, Budde spent an astonishing 14 years as a member of the Chiefs organization and he sure racked up the awards during his time here. He was a two-time AFL Champion (1966, 1969), a Super Bowl Champion in 1969, apart of the All-Time All-AFL Team, and a seven-time Pro Bowler (1963, 1966-1971).
Budde played in 177 games during his 14 years in the league, and only played with the Texans and Chiefs. He was never apart of another franchise, which is another reason why he is so high up on this list.
Budde’s son Brad also played for the Chiefs, but did not have nearly as impressive as a career as his father did. Ed Budde is one of the best offensive guards in Chiefs history, and he remains one of the team’s best first-round picks ever.
Budde was elected into the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 1984.
