Best First Round Picks by the Chiefs – Number 6: Art Still (Chiefs defensive end from 1978-1987)

Hailing from the University of Kentucky, Art Still became the Chiefs’ second overall pick in the 1978 NFL Draft. The Chiefs never looked back.

In ten seasons with the Chiefs, Still racked up 42 and a half sacks and was the NFL All-Rookie in the 1978 season. He was a four-time Pro Bowler with the Chiefs (1980-1982, 1984) and was an All-Pro selection in 1980 by NEA, PFWA, and Pro Football Weekly.

Still was a two-time Second-Team All-Pro candidate in 1980 and in 1984 and was named two-time First-Team All-AFC in 1980 and 1986.

While Still was a great player for the Chiefs, he played for some pretty lousy Chiefs teams. Guys like Derrick Thomas and Tamba Hali have had other strong guys helping them out on the defense, Art Still had no one. He was the shining star on a team without stars.

In fact, during Still’s ten-year career in Kansas City, the Chiefs only made it to the playoffs once. It was a 20-point loss to the Jets.

Still finished his career with the Buffalo Bills, playing there for two seasons before calling it a career. He was elected into the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 1998.
