Round 5 – Pick 26: Tajae Sharpe, Wide Receiver (Massachusetts)

The Kansas City Chiefs add even more depth to their already diverse group of third wide receivers in selecting Tajae Sharpe with their second fifth-round pick.

Internal competition is never a bad thing and it could push players like Albert Wilson or Chris Conley to elevate their game. Sharpe would appear to be a project piece, but he has a fairly high ceiling if he can fill out his frame.

He wasn’t a top performer in any of the combine categories, but he doesn’t need to be the Chiefs’ top performer either. He simply needs to provide depth and catch everything thrown his way.

Here’s what NFL.com has to say about the Nation’s leading pass catcher last year:

"Sharpe is the most productive receiver to come out of UMass, and as a receiver who turned 21 in December, it is conceivable that he could still be filling out his long frame. Sharpe has the athleticism, hands and feel for space to work from the slot and the size and route acumen to work outside. It might take a year, but he has the talent and football character to become a productive NFL receiver."

Tajae Sharpe doesn’t drop the football. That’s a skill set the Chiefs could desperately use in short yardage situations. He’s not a burner, but he could line up in the slot and help the Chiefs run some clock consuming drives (Not that they need any help chewing up clock).
