Round 3 – Pick 28: Kenneth Dixon, Running Back (Louisiana Tech)

This pick isn’t likely to happen as things stand right now. Due to a punishment being dolled out that far exceeds punishments for similar violation, the Chiefs are without their third-round pick. Trying to remain optimistic about the appeal process, the Chiefs go with a running back in the third-round of this mock draft.

The Chiefs got great play out of Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West last season. That was after some guy named Jamaal Charles went down for the season with his second ACL injury.

The Chiefs probably don’t really need to draft a running back right now, but it would be nice to have a different option than Knile Davis. He’s another running back that the Chiefs took in the third-round and he’s rewarded them with a loose grip and by keeping the bench warm.

Kenneth Dixon would add depth and maybe eventually lead to a replacement for Jamaal Charles. He can’t run forever.

  • 20 Yard Shuttle: 4.28 seconds

Here’s what his NFL.com draft profile had to say about the running back out of Louisiana Tech:

"Highly determined runner with a strong desire to compete through the whistle on every snap. Dixon possesses outstanding feet with exciting suddenness in his change of direction, but he’s very willing to finish his runs with authority and has a knack for finding the endzone. Dixon has all the traits of being a quality, three-down starter in the NFL but his frame and suspect pass protection could be long-term concerns."

It would be nice if the Chiefs could add another bruiser like Spencer Ware to the mix. They have West and Charles who can turn on the jets out of the backfield, but having multiple power backs on the goal line would be a nice treat.
