Kansas City Chiefs Take Best Available In 2016 Mock Draft
By Scott Dillon
Round 1 – Pick 28: Josh Doctson (TCU)
Josh Doctson wasn’t just the best player available in the first-round of this mock draft, but he does potentially fill a position of need.
The Chiefs already have their number one wide receiver in Jeremy Maclin. They then have a seemingly endless list of wide receivers who qualify as number three receivers, but no one really stands out as a true second receiver.
They recently signed Rod Streater to a one-year contract, but he’ll have to step up his game in a big way to be the seoncd option for the Chiefs. Josh Doctson may be able to step in the role of second receiver and flourish.
Josh Doctson Combine Results

- Bench Press: 14 reps
- Vertival Jump: 41.0*
- Broad Jump: 131.0 inches*
- Three Cone Drill: 6.84 seconds
- 20 Yard Shuttle: 4.08 seconds*
- 60 Yard Shuttle: 11.06*
(*= Top Performer)
Doctson was a top performer in many of the combine categories and easily profiles as a team’s second best receiver. If the Chiefs add him, they’re offense could suddenly become as good as their defense.
Here’s what NFL.com has to say about Doctson:
"Highly productive receiver with good height but in need of more functional mass for the NFL game. Doctson must prove he can play against press coverage if he is to reach his potential, but his ability to go up and win when the ball is in the air will endear him to quarterbacks. Scouts don’t expect to be wowed by his 40 time, but most believe he’ll be a solid No. 2 receiver in the league."
While the Chiefs already have a plethora of options at the receiver position, there is no question that they could use some help in that department.
