KC Royals: Getting To Know Veteran Infielder Clint Barmes
By Scott Dillon
“You mentioned that there were no egos in the clubhouse. In spite of that fact, and it being regarded as a team full of leaders, does any one person stand out as a leader even though they may not wear a ‘C’ on their chest?”
"“As far as I can tell to this point, there’s a handful of guys that are kind of the core, so to speak. Everyone kind of feeds off those guys and every good team needs that. It’s fortunate for this club to have more than just one or two guys. I mean you go through the clubhouse and it’s tough to pinpoint just one or two guys, you know what I mean. Especially with Hos (Eric Hosmer) and what he’s done, Moose (Mike Moustakas). You look at their time and what they’ve done in their careers, they’ve got something special. Gordon (Alex Gordon) and Perez (Salvador Perez) behind the plate and the way he carries himself and goes about his business is huge. There are guys like that in every facet of the game and for this team. So there’s not just one or two guys that really stick out. It’s a core group and it’s been fun to watch up to now and to be a part of.”"
“Speaking of Salvador Perez, you kind of mentioned him as one of the clubhouse leaders. I don’t know if you’re familiar with his Instagram account or the videos he posts on there, but he’s always giving Lorenzo Cain a little bit hard time. Is that something that’s just on camera or is that the kind of energy going on in the clubhouse at all times?”
"“Yeah, that’s pretty much a daily thing. I think there’s a lot of truth to that. That’s what makes it fun as well. Guys can do that kind of stuff and have fun enjoy doing what we’re doing. Those guys seem to do a very good job of it. They’re keeping it loose. They’re always joking. Every once in a while you’ve got to rag on guys and poke a little fun at guys to keep them honest. They seem to be a great group when it comes to that.”"
