Derrick Johnson

As much as it pains me to put him here, Derrick Johnson could be bidding the Chiefs farewell this offseason. Johnson, the team’s first round pick in 2005, has become a favorite in Kansas City and it’d be difficult to see him wearing another team’s jersey next season.

Not only has DJ been a legend on the field, but he’s a legend off the field too. He’s one of the most beloved Chiefs and it’ll be tough to see him go.

The reason I feel like DJ will leave is because of Kansas City re-signing Hali. Hali is here for another three years and I just don’t see there being enough cash to bring Johnson back to a favorable deal. He’s said that he wants to be a Chief in 2016, but the NFL is a business, and that really sucks sometimes.

Johnson has had a hell of a career with the Chiefs. He currently holds the tackle record in the Chiefs organization with 820 and has 26.5 sacks and 13 interceptions.

The good news is that I haven’t heard Johnson’s name linked with many other teams. In fact, Marc Sessler of NFL.com reported that John Dorsey was working to keep Johnson in Kansas City.

I’m still not sold on that, but man, I would be happy if Derrick Johnson returned to Arrowhead in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform in 2016. He really should be a Chief for life.
